History of Bapuji Co-operative Bank Ltd.

Bapuji Co-operative Bank Ltd., a leading Co-operative Bank in Karnataka was founded by Late Maganur Basappa & other co-operators during the beginning of the co-operative movement in our country, with the prime object of encouraging thrift and savings habit among the public and to free the members from the clutches of private money lenders. The bank believes in a consumer- and poor-oriented approach.

Initially, the bank started as a Credit Co-operative Society in the year 1970 and later converted as a Co-operative Bank on 02-09-1986. The bank began with 92 members, mobilised share capital of Rs.69,000 from them, and also mobilised deposits, advances and disbursed dividend. Today the total business of the bank has crossed Rs.619.00 crores and it is placed among the top ten Urban Co-operative Banks in the State of Karnataka, with 9 branches and one head office spread across Karnataka.

The Bank is functioning on the sound principles of Co-operation and has successfully completed more than 55 years of banking service. It has continuously made a profit since inception, disbursed dividend to its members, and holds an ‘A’ Grade audit classification. Visionary and transparent directors on the Board and dedicated professional staff are responsible for this achievement. The Bank celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1996.

Bapuji Co-operative Bank was established in the year 1970 in Davangere, then recognised as a prominent commercial hub. Under the leadership of Shri Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who served as a guiding light, the relentless efforts put forth did not go in vain. Today, the bank has not only become a pride of the city but has also earned the distinction of being the first bank in the state with the highest share capital and reserves.

The bank welcomes members from all communities, and it has extended loans to its members based on their individual needs.

Loans support agriculture and allied activities, small industries, traders, housing construction, vehicle purchases, salary-based requirements, and other purposes. Special attention has also been given to priority sectors and weaker sections, contributing to their upliftment.

To provide excellent service to its customers, all branches of the bank have been equipped with a Core Banking System and the CTS-2010 clearing system. With the bank’s RuPay Card, customers can withdraw money from ATMs of any bank across the country, carry out Point of Sale transactions, and also use RTGS/NEFT facilities. Through the bank’s own IFSC Code No. IBKL0364BCB, customers can directly transfer funds to their accounts with ease.

Achievements of Bapuji Co-operative Bank Ltd.

Bapuji Co-operative Bank Ltd., Davangere, has contributed significantly to society from the profits it has earned. The bank donated ₹2.00 crores for the establishment of a Cancer Hospital to provide treatment for cancer patients. To commemorate its Silver Jubilee, the bank spent over ₹5.00 crores to construct the well-equipped Bapuji Bank Community Hall. During a severe drought in Davangere, the bank supported the digging of 25 borewells, thereby alleviating the drinking water shortage. The bank has also extended substantial financial assistance to victims of the Odisha floods, the Gujarat earthquake, and the Kargil war. In addition, the bank has provided financial aid for the construction of several community halls in Davangere city. It also contributed ₹10.00 lakhs to complete the building of Kuvempu University and extended support to the Police Department for the purchase of a patrol vehicle. It is indeed a matter of pride to state that the bank has consistently provided such financial assistance for the welfare and betterment of the public.
